where does one draw the line between religion and health?
Heparin, a drug used to prevent clotting post-operatively, saves many lives and is a recombinant protein made from cells from pigs, there is a cow version but it doesn’t work as well and leads to deadly HIT complications. Would a muslim use this product or would he risk death for his beliefs? What about other life-saving porcine medications?

Some say the line is blurred.I would not draw the line between them, but, around them.I would draw a circle around them.

For religion to interfere with health is ridiculous. When you are sick God can help you, if you ask him to. How? Telekinesis and mental telepathy.
But only if it would lead to harmony.

If there is no alternative then this would not be forbidden. The person is not eating it, they are using it save their life. And Allah knows the best.

The two are not related. Religion is a futile attempt to link up with GOD. For the Christian religion, GOD is Spirit. I don’t know about the other religions. Your health is your personal business. If you do not look after it properly, no body would.

do not know

both muslims and jews would, if they knew it came from hogs, probably not accept it as a medicinal product, not because it wouldn’t help, but because , to them, pork, and anything derived from it, is unclean to them. however, some jews, and possibly muslims, who do not fully follow the dietary laws, would probably allow the medicine to be used.
i know that some of the reformed jews even eat bacon and ham because they are aware of the original purpose of the ditery laws as being used to prevent the ingestion of certain organisms which can cause extreme illness, and even death, when the meat is not fully cooked. pork is a transmitter of the smal cysytic parasite which causes elephantiasis, an illness which causes the leg to become huge, and useless as a limb used to walk on.
