Consider the cost of producing 100 million (10E8) doses of a DNA vaccine (100µg/dose), or 10kg. At an out-source cost of $46,000/gram (GMP), the net cost of production would be $460 million. Performing the work in-house using a 5,000 L fermentor, at 15mg/L DNA yield, would produce 75g, necessitating 133 fermentor runs to obtain the required amount. On the other hand, using HyperGRO fed batch media, five runs completes the task (or one batch using a 25,000 liter fermentor), saving many millions of dollars in production costs, and reducing the unit cost from dollars to pennies.
HyperGRO™ fermentation broths push the limits of productivity of E coli dramatically higher, to approximately 240mg/l (batch fermentation) and 1.5 g/l (fed batch).
